John Minto was the leader and organiser of HART, (Halt all Racist Tours) they were influential in protest action leading up to the 1981 Springbok
Tour. Minto was an anti-tour activist who believed it was morally wrong to continue sporting ties with a country that condoned racist and apatheid
practices, South Africa had selected an all white team to play New Zealand and Minto believed that New Zealand could be, and was being seen as encouraging
racist policies by letting the Springboks tour New Zealand. He was amoungst hundreds of protestors to take the field in Hamilton resulting in the game being
cancelled.
